Homeschooling Twinadoes Language Arts honors and leads with your child’s thoughts and ideas, while providing explicit instruction in
- reading comprehension strategies,
- grammar,
- writing,
- vocabulary,
- visual analysis, and
- literature studies.
It is completely secular, academically rigorous, and scaffolded to support your child.
Movement, Play, and Creativity
Movement, play, and creativity are an integral part of this curriculum. Games and activities aren’t just provided as extra optional lessons, but are integrated into every day, supporting the learning and retention of new concepts as well as old. Printable board games, card games, and other activities that your child will want to play again and again serve as review, so you can give your child as much repetition as needed for key grammar concepts and vocabulary.
Deep Literature
Lessons every week are based around picture books that are truly deep literature with beautiful artwork from diverse voices. These texts allow your child to think and analyze deeply and also serve as mentor texts for grammar and writing so that your child can see examples of the concepts taught before trying to apply them themselves.
Low Prep and Open and Go
Each week includes minimal prep to set up for the week’s activities and sometimes gather a few additional materials that you already have at home. Day to day, you can get straight to teaching with the Instructor’s Manual to guide you.
Based on Research
Homeschooling Twinadoes Language Arts is based on research and designed for kids who need to move. Specifically, the strategies/pedagogy I have based lessons on include robust vocabulary instruction, Whole Book Approach, Visual Thinking Strategies, the Hochman Method / Writing Revolution 2.0, and other evidence-based studies on reading comprehension.
Generative AI Free
I do not believe in using generative AI to develop teaching materials for several reasons. Generative AI includes inherent bias that would detract from my goals to make this curriculum as diverse and inclusive as possible. Early research shows that generative AI is having a detrimental effect on student learning, and there are also ethical implications to AI use, including copyright infringement when training AI models and the immense water and power usage of AI data centers.
Rather than relying on AI, I’ve put a lot of time and effort into thoughtfully designing this curriculum, with research and expertise as the foundation.
What This Curriculum Does Not Include
This curriculum does not include instruction for
- handwriting,
- spelling, or
- learning to read.
There are lots of quality curricula available for these aspects of language arts. Our personal favorites are Handwriting Without Tears, All About Spelling, and All About Reading. For ideas for how to integrate additional play and movement into these curricula, please see my Instagram or Pinterest pages.
